The Versatile Little Black Dress

This spooky season is celebrated in many different ways, but it’s probably safe to say costumes are the best part (besides another excuse to overload on chocolate!). As a child, playing dress up out in public was exhilarating- wearing or being something you wouldn’t normally wear or be is always fun!

One of the downsides of being an “adult” may include lack of time and energy to come up with that fabulous costume of your dreams- this is where your little black dress comes in!

spooky4

You don’t necessarily have to dress up AS something- it’s perfectly acceptable to just be inspired by the season, and adorn yourself in black lace, velvet chokers, eccentric jewelry of any sort, and of course some smoky eye makeup (or all out face paint!).

We love this full on black lace dress– the vintage inspired floral lace pattern is beautiful. We of course paired it with our most trusted bamboo slip underneath.

Mesh is also a great alternative to lace, adding a bit more edge to any outfit.

Any holiday is an excuse to dress up- so take advantage!

Style Guide: A night out this NYE.

Screen Shot 2015-12-29 at 12.01.54 AM

I will look for any excuse to get glammed to the nines. Whether it’s coffee or a dash of Frangelico, any event is fare game for affirming my body with looks that express inner radiance. Contrary to popular belief however, this is a luxury afforded to all individuals. Glamour is where Vogue and Value Village are level as the fountain water of a summerhouse backyard.

Regardless of budget, NYE, however, is the ultimate occasion for glam. Now, whether this means sequins and nice nails or seven Fireballs and hunched wobbling in stilettos, through snow and into a sweaty cab is up to you. Either way, New Years Eve is a night for each individual to do and wear what makes us feel glamorous, kissing “good morning” to the days that lie ahead.

So without further delay, these are the looks that have caught my eye, this season, for NYE:

1) Head to toe in silver & gold.

THE EVERYGIRL, VOGUE

If a look to shine is on your mind, I mean. . these two are practically a given. While many might find a full-piece metallic intimidating, the key to achieving a balanced look in silver or gold is minimal to zero accessories. As shown above, fewer jewels are a graceful approach to sporting any full metallic look.

2) Sweaters and sequins, baby.

GLAMOUR Fashion, THE EVERYGIRL

Elegant and effortlessly (although probably not haha) chic, this look is confident and comfortable, religiously keeping the fun in NYE.

3) Ultra-glammy rompers!

Cuz nothin says “fun” like a onesie. All jokes aside, these sparkly rompers breathe party-time. For a more sophisticated look, however, the full-length leg is the way to go. As modelled above, a naturalistic hair look can help to tame a sassy romper.

4) All black, high neck peek-a-boo.

Eonline, VOGUE

Uh-huh honey. This look is sexsayyyy. With a high neckline in sombre black, the peek-a-boo look is all about choosing your place to show skin. A cut out or sheer fabric is the perfect way to add a more intimate feel to your ensemble while honing a graceful approach to that NYE glamour. Think Riri or Dita Von Teese.

And last but certainly not least. .

5) All-over black and glitta in ooooneee!

FASHION GONE ROGUE, VOGUE

There can be too much of a good thing. . . so then you just wear all those good things together, naturally. As demonstrated by the above goddesses of music and film, shimmering statement pieces atop a demure, velvet black is where it’s at. Don’t ever be afraid to get a little freaky on NYE or any day. Living, breathing glamour is infinitely more diverse than media portrayals of “glamorous” women.

So let’s let the year ahead be about choosing to express ourselves not how we’re told to, but in a way that lets the insides of our minds shine like diamonds. While fashion articles may find you a show-stopping look, never forget that it’s the freedom on your face and your confidence in what you choose to wear that makes you radiant and glamorous.

Have fun and express yourself, this NYE,

Subtle Florals

This summer we have seen florals in many shapes, designs and colours. Yes they are beautiful, but wearing bright colourful florals on a daily basis can be too much for ones closet. Especially if you’re closet consists of blacks, whites and greys. If you still love your bright colours, but are looking for more of a subtle look, these dresses are perfect for you.

Diamond buck wild.

This summer, I’ve been hanging out in the woods with a group of photographers from the South end of Calgary. Initially, when contemplating “actually doing this”, the goal was to live off as little as possible and make as much art as our fingers could bleed out, feeding almost solely on the company and driven Earth hunger of one another. With the exception of a few glances backward on the drive out – a promise to Calgary, my recent home – some sort of awkward parent – the nights and road ahead have beamed with a dry crackle and flame, silvery incandescence in the place of city lights.

Ha, actually I didn’t do any of that. That was a bit romantic though, hey?

“This summer, I found myself in the woods”.

“I was lost, but nature, our mother, birthed a bridge between body and self”.

(This is where I’d cue the Eddie Vedder and insert a passage from Into the Wild)

No, alas these images are not the child of an introspective walk in the woods.

However, for those of us who might be missing or craving some of those times, there was something a little bit transportive about going out on the lake, in this look, with a group of photographer friends from the South end of Calgary.

For the record, I think this kimono has been my favourite piece of poem to the body, this summer.

The Underrated Kimono

LIS_9280-691x460I love being home. Most people know this about me… and I’m never ashamed to admit that I am the definition of a homebody.

I know for some people lounging around the house means wearing less flattering clothing lol…such as husky sweats, flannel pj’s etc etc (and hey, there is nothing wrong with that). Perhaps because I work from home, I always feel better when I wear pretty things and things that make me comfortable. This is where elegance meets comfort when you can throw on a Kimono and a Kami Lace Short Strap Dress.  This is the perfect layering piece for all your leggings and cardigans. Toss on your Kimono and you can step outside and grab the mail without scaring your neighbours off.

You can even dress it up with a statement necklace and some pumps!  Kimono’s are very versatile and this little black dress features pretty lace detailing that adds elegance to your ensemble.
