This lace dress needs to be in your closet, so easy to wear and makes a statement every time. If you need it for a wedding just add a lace tank and tights.
Floppy hats are good for bad hair days, which are a constant with our windy fall days in Saskatoon.
Every great black outfit needs a pop of colour. We love these little floral clutches, just big enough for your cell phone and lipgloss.
We have this thing for kimonos, the way they move and add personality to every simple outfit. This lace one is so delicate, but we also love kimonos with prints and patterns like this one.
Just in case it snows we suggest a leopard coat, it’s the perfect shape for over a dress or pants and the color goes with everything.

This summer, I’ve been hanging out in the woods with a group of photographers from the South end of Calgary. Initially, when contemplating “actually doing this”, the goal was to live off as little as possible and make as much art as our fingers could bleed out, feeding almost solely on the company and driven Earth hunger of one another. With the exception of a few glances backward on the drive out – a promise to Calgary, my recent home – some sort of awkward parent – the nights and road ahead have beamed with a dry crackle and flame, silvery incandescence in the place of city lights.
Ha, actually I didn’t do any of that. That was a bit romantic though, hey?
“This summer, I found myself in the woods”.
“I was lost, but nature, our mother, birthed a bridge between body and self”.
(This is where I’d cue the Eddie Vedder and insert a passage from Into the Wild)
No, alas these images are not the child of an introspective walk in the woods.
However, for those of us who might be missing or craving some of those times, there was something a little bit transportive about going out on the lake, in this look, with a group of photographer friends from the South end of Calgary.
For the record, I think this kimono has been my favourite piece of poem to the body, this summer.

When my fiance and I decided to tie the knot this year… we decided on a simple “at home” private ceremony between us and our two children. It seemed silly to go out and buy a fancy big wedding dress… but I still wanted to look like a bride. I guess you could say that because this was a simple wedding… I needed a simple look.
I ventured out ALL over the city and tried to find a simple off-white dress. I didn’t know what it needed to look like but I knew if I saw a certain type of dress, it would be “the one”. I found a simple one, but thought it needed something to dress it up a bit.
The search continued for all the fun stuff like finding accessories and I thought of no other place other than FARMINISTA and TONIC. I had had my eye on a this lace kimono weeks ago.. and thought it would look gorgeous for a wedding. Sure enough it worked perfect with my dress and the rest is history. It was easy finding earrings at Tonic/Farminista and I found the perfect pair that worked with an existing large pearl necklace I had. I made my own flowers with greenery from Anthology…. which worked perfect with my dress choice.

What does bohemian mean to you?
Do you think of artists, musicians or free spirited people? We think of bohemian style as a relaxed, layered look, girls who like to take their favourite dress and pair it with a sweater, scarf or even add a kimono, or vest or crochet sweater and lots of accessories.
Desiree Martin has been taking pictures of friends and family for years, she put together this shoot with a few of her favourite creative friends. But also does weddings and other important occasions. Because she grew up in the country she has an eye for natural beauty and that little sparkle you see in the bohemian girls eye that shows she’s just not like every other girl.
Growing up in the fashion industry and being surrounded by artists gave her the vision to create a bohemian mood in this stunning prairie environment.
We have long, cold winters, so when the hot prairie sun is out we spend as much time outside as possible. To make a little shade for a picnic or a nap like we did use an old curtain or tablecloth, pack some snacks and your favourite drink and make some memories to get you through the next winter. Oh, and don’t forget your guitar!
Make sure you add a little prairie bohemian to your wardrobe this spring, super soft and flowing fabric in neutral colours and interesting prints and just a few of your favourite bracelets and necklaces to spice it up, check out our bohemian collection on Farminista.
I guess we complain about winter a little these days, it’s hard to enjoy anything outside when there is a wind chill warning and a huge seat sale on WestJet. In just a few short hours you can be on a beach, (you have to bring an extra suitcase just for your parka, you will need it when you get out of the airport) a few days in the sun can make you face the rest of winter with a smile. We found the perfect winter night in L.A. on the Santa Monica Pier.
A little walk on the beach is soo much sweeter when you know your friends are home shoveling their driveway. It’s the perfect night for our favourite maxi dress and a thin kimono.
The best part about leaving the beach at night is knowing you can go to the farmers market in the morning!
Nothing like an iced latte from Shortcake L.A. to start the day. Since our winter jackets are taking up precious luggage space a bright shirt works perfectly over this maxi dress for a day at The Grove.
Thanks to Kelsi for the great weekend and to our photographer….
I love being home. Most people know this about me… and I’m never ashamed to admit that I am the definition of a homebody.
I know for some people lounging around the house means wearing less flattering clothing lol…such as husky sweats, flannel pj’s etc etc (and hey, there is nothing wrong with that). Perhaps because I work from home, I always feel better when I wear pretty things and things that make me comfortable. This is where elegance meets comfort when you can throw on a Kimono and a Kami Lace Short Strap Dress. This is the perfect layering piece for all your leggings and cardigans. Toss on your Kimono and you can step outside and grab the mail without scaring your neighbours off.
You can even dress it up with a statement necklace and some pumps! Kimono’s are very versatile and this little black dress features pretty lace detailing that adds elegance to your ensemble.
