Intentionally Sensual Soup for the Soul.

_MAT9193

I have to start this blog off by saying how fun shooting in this particular look was, for me. There’s nothing like a plunge neckline and a healthy dose of black to make me feel like one badass babe. The Luxe collection is full of special dresses that can empower any woman.

_MAT9190

Now, whether or not I’m actually “badass” is up for debate. I probably stir up far less trouble than that word suggests. However, I definitely still find ways to take my day from mundane to “man, I’m glad I was awake for this” and what I’ve found makes that difference is glamour. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean flashing lights, good access to life-threatening drugs or any sort of celebrity style glamour . . . What I mean by “glamour” is whatever it is that you do to appreciate yourself, to decorate your day to day, a glamour that’s specific to who you are as a soul.

_MAT9187

For me, this often means compelling lipstick and an evening out on the town or sipping wine with a good read in hand. However, it could also mean eating carrot cake in a foamy tub while swimming in unapologetically sad jazz. Sometimes, glamour means licking the tips of my fingers clean after eating my favourite pizza in bed . . . Or being naked in a creek somewhere. In fact, moments like these usually require little more than an appetite for feeling and are easy to achieve. All that’s really required is that I take the time. In our conceptions of people we consider to be glamorous, I think the concept of excess is usually a key determinant. However, what’s maybe at the heart of glamour is actually excess feeling and the capability, as Rox pointed out in her last blog, to choose to slow down – not to slow down permanently, but to allow yourself time in a day to really sensually engage in an experience that you enjoy.

_MAT9163

Sensual, intentional moments of indulgence – this is what makes me feel glamorous.

_MAT9150

While the accessories and carrot cakes and pizzas or whatever do play a part, what rewards my soul most is taking hold my creative agency to curate a moment that I can fully engage in. Shooting in this look, the sensuality, the thrill-seeker and the woman in me felt both acknowledged and celebrated.

_MAT9148

For me, this is the difference between “treating yourself” in a way that’s often used to enable excess and between allowing our souls the time to feel acknowledged and rewarded. Even if it’s as simple as putting on something that makes you feel vibrant or listening to an album or two in full, eyes closed, allowing yourself to be glamorous through moments of decoration unique to your own existence is life-giving.

There are few sights more beautiful, glamorous or more compelling than people actively loving themselves before our eyes.

Style Guide: A night out this NYE.

Screen Shot 2015-12-29 at 12.01.54 AM

I will look for any excuse to get glammed to the nines. Whether it’s coffee or a dash of Frangelico, any event is fare game for affirming my body with looks that express inner radiance. Contrary to popular belief however, this is a luxury afforded to all individuals. Glamour is where Vogue and Value Village are level as the fountain water of a summerhouse backyard.

Regardless of budget, NYE, however, is the ultimate occasion for glam. Now, whether this means sequins and nice nails or seven Fireballs and hunched wobbling in stilettos, through snow and into a sweaty cab is up to you. Either way, New Years Eve is a night for each individual to do and wear what makes us feel glamorous, kissing “good morning” to the days that lie ahead.

So without further delay, these are the looks that have caught my eye, this season, for NYE:

1) Head to toe in silver & gold.

THE EVERYGIRL, VOGUE

If a look to shine is on your mind, I mean. . these two are practically a given. While many might find a full-piece metallic intimidating, the key to achieving a balanced look in silver or gold is minimal to zero accessories. As shown above, fewer jewels are a graceful approach to sporting any full metallic look.

2) Sweaters and sequins, baby.

GLAMOUR Fashion, THE EVERYGIRL

Elegant and effortlessly (although probably not haha) chic, this look is confident and comfortable, religiously keeping the fun in NYE.

3) Ultra-glammy rompers!

Cuz nothin says “fun” like a onesie. All jokes aside, these sparkly rompers breathe party-time. For a more sophisticated look, however, the full-length leg is the way to go. As modelled above, a naturalistic hair look can help to tame a sassy romper.

4) All black, high neck peek-a-boo.

Uh-huh honey. This look is sexsayyyy. With a high neckline in sombre black, the peek-a-boo look is all about choosing your place to show skin. A cut out or sheer fabric is the perfect way to add a more intimate feel to your ensemble while honing a graceful approach to that NYE glamour. Think Riri or Dita Von Teese.

And last but certainly not least. .

5) All-over black and glitta in ooooneee!

FASHION GONE ROGUE, VOGUE

There can be too much of a good thing. . . so then you just wear all those good things together, naturally. As demonstrated by the above goddesses of music and film, shimmering statement pieces atop a demure, velvet black is where it’s at. Don’t ever be afraid to get a little freaky on NYE or any day. Living, breathing glamour is infinitely more diverse than media portrayals of “glamorous” women.

So let’s let the year ahead be about choosing to express ourselves not how we’re told to, but in a way that lets the insides of our minds shine like diamonds. While fashion articles may find you a show-stopping look, never forget that it’s the freedom on your face and your confidence in what you choose to wear that makes you radiant and glamorous.

Have fun and express yourself, this NYE,
