October at Tonic and Farminista

With October slowly starting to fade out, and the transition into November begins (the month that I believe is socially acceptable to start playing Christmas music).

This month at Tonic has been a great one, seeing all the new fall fashions come in and seeing the joy and excitement for the most scenic month of the year makes me want to latch onto this month to ensure it doesn’t simmer away too fast.

I’ve gathered a few of my all-time favorites of this month to show you.

First, I want to talk to you guys about our jacket obsession. If you live anywhere in the prairies, you know jackets are a must.

Make an impression with your last layer!

The Jenny Wool Jacket makes it easy for you to do that.

Check out some of our other jackets!

This is a classic twist on any cardigan, and easily has been our best seller this season. It perfectly fits on any body type, and gives you a bit of extra length in the back so you can wear it with leggings!

Here is a quick link to check it out online:

We wouldn’t be Farminista if we didn’t include any of our head turning dresses. This dress is the definition of fall.

And finally- we are excited to be starting our very own line! Right now, we only have coffee mugs. But, we are working very hard to release more Prairie People goodies! Show off your prairie pride!

I chose a more boho casual look, and styled the vest with high waisted mint shorts, a graphic tank top and gladiator sandals.  Definitely a more carefree, festival inspired look, and it goes to show how versatile this lace vest is!

That’s a wrap for our Oregon Coast road trip style posts.  In case you missed it, you can catch up on all of our posts here: Anchors Aweigh // A White Dress at Haystack Rock // a lace vest part 1: styled with a maxi dress.

Tulle and Chambray

Nothing makes you feel like a princess quite like a tulle skirt.  Soft and feminine, with a bit of drama…it is sure to draw a bit of attention!

I decided to style this skirt over one of my favorite lace and chambray dresses, and the tulle definitely gave this dress such a fresh new look.  And when paired with a sweet pair of red flats, this outfit sure makes a statement!

I think the tulle skirt trend is just so much fun, and can definitely be dressed up or down.  Here’s to feeling like a ballerina whenever I wear it!

The Underrated Kimono

LIS_9280-691x460I love being home. Most people know this about me… and I’m never ashamed to admit that I am the definition of a homebody.

I know for some people lounging around the house means wearing less flattering clothing lol…such as husky sweats, flannel pj’s etc etc (and hey, there is nothing wrong with that). Perhaps because I work from home, I always feel better when I wear pretty things and things that make me comfortable. This is where elegance meets comfort when you can throw on a Kimono and a Kami Lace Short Strap Dress.  This is the perfect layering piece for all your leggings and cardigans. Toss on your Kimono and you can step outside and grab the mail without scaring your neighbours off.

You can even dress it up with a statement necklace and some pumps!  Kimono’s are very versatile and this little black dress features pretty lace detailing that adds elegance to your ensemble.

Falling For Fall…

Usually I look forward to fall in the last heat wave of summer, I start to feel all hot and sticky and get sick of barbecues everyday and not using the oven because it’s just too hot.  Then after a few freezing days and nights and meals that take forever to prepare and bake I am sorry I ever complained and miss summer.  But this year is sooo different, it has been abnormally hot for weeks, I had a few days of wearing my new coat and layering up and then I had to put my air conditioner on to drive a few blocks, and dig around my closet for my dresses and flip-flops.  So now I can say I have had a great summer, and I feel I am ready for fall, not for winter, yet, but I can handle fall.  We had the greatest farewell s’mores party for a lovely girl who has worked in the shop and on Farminista for a few years and these girls know how to make fall look amazing, take a peek…

Rose prints are sneaking up everywhere in the shop this season, we see them on sweaters, coats and even kimono’s.

rose_kimonoWe love the vintage inspired look of floral prints, there is something nostalgic about the changing seasons and the memories of dressing warm as a child or with a Grandparent have a strong tie to our reasons for living here and embracing the upcoming cold with excitement.
