pretty among the plums

Oh hey there!  It’s Kelsey!  I’m back, and so excited to share this gorgeous wine red maxi dress with you all.

My jaw dropped when I first saw this dress, and I instantly fell in love with the rich, red-purple colour.  I knew that I wanted to style it in our orchard, with our beautiful plum and pear trees in the background.  The floral lace overlay exudes such a wonderful, boho, feminine vibe, and the romper underneath ensures that you never have to worry about your slip riding up!

The dress dips nice and low in the front, so I paired it with a soft and lacey, purple bralette underneath.  What a dream!

Now I just need to find a last minute summer music festival to attend, because this is the perfect outfit for one!

Lustre and a look at interactive beauty.

The scales on the wings of brown African butterflies thicken and evolve to reflect violet light, “if it suits them” – a letter of love to their surroundings, a stunning externalization of their own genetic make-up.

A friend and I are chatting while glazing the rims of our coffee mugs in bright, cosmetic reds. As it often does, the conversation turns toward expression and what it means to be noticed and influenced by others, while indulging in dress that’s true to who we are and what awakens us, internally.

_MAT0382

There’s a beautiful and unique conversation that goes on between the way we choose to adorn ourselves and the environments we reflect.

I remember myself – a little girl gaping up at “full grown” women in loud, elegant outfits thinking “twenty”, my hunger to be like them nearly seeping from my stomach. Not fully understanding why, at the time, the thought curdled nonetheless, coming out (then) in lipstick and in art and (now) in more ladylike garments and still in art. . . and lipstick.

Sometimes the little things that influence us stick around and become who we are, fashion calling them to sight in a rich and navy lustre;

Fibre vulnerable to the indents and folds of my twenty-something year old body;

Hoarfrost thread crowning neck and queuing delicate fingers, mind;

This is the response I don towards a visual culture that’s informed who I am.

This can only be had in the knowing that’s it’s OK to be influenced by the environments we espouse while seeking to express what make us . . . us.

Something for Angels

_MAT3858

Ever crave a look that channels your modest goddess while slippin the sexy vibes? Oh yes you do 😉

While the goal is always to feel our best, sometimes it’s hard to bridge the gap between obvious “sexywear” and a look we feel is a little more subtle. While I’ve said it before, the key to the equation is lace! This summer, I’ve become entranced with the elegant lace maxi. The epitome of “conceal to reveal”, lacy, bohemian maxis are stellar for asserting your right to be worshipped. Women are angel babes and we have this right. Exercise your divine rights, man.

While successfully elongating every inch of your luminous, goddess-like frame, ivory lace is the puurrrfect means for delivering notes of both sex appeal and tender, unapologetic femininity. These gals are the slow-pour, full-bodied brew of your closet 😉

When it comes down to it though, I think that the most important thing is feeling like the angel you are, and this one certainly did the job 🙂

A Secret in White

_MAT3862

With sweater weather fading into the sunset and summer well on its way, I’m again on the hunt to attribute a glow to my still peachy-white frame.. (I like to think of it as ivory, actually 😉 )

Now if Ultra UV orange is your jam, then by all means, hit up the tanning beds!! However, I would like to propose an at least somewhat more natural solution:

The White On White (the second “white” meaning all things pale).

_MAT3872-Edit

Contrary to the likes of Nicole Polizzi and the popular notion of needing to be tanned (while theres’s certainly nothing wrong with a sun-kissed look), I like to think that there’s an equally attractive means to adorning and embracing your fair-skinned bod. The key to this is choosing hues unique to your outer shell 🙂

Lately, I’m finding that my favourite pillar, by far, in achieving this is delicate shades of alabaster and white. It would be no lie to say that it’s sometimes a struggle to find a subtly sexual, yet classy and fresh way of baring more skin in the summer. In light of this, look no further than our friends Athena and Helen of Troy for an elegant take on working the white. While allowing you to show a little more of what makes your body divine, soft hues of white imply purity and gentleness (and of course wisdom, elegance, charm, and the like 😉 ).

So forget the UV’s this summer and reward your skin with the freedom to keep its own porcelain glow.

Embrace your epidermis 😉
